Degraded and post-industrial areas pose a serious problem for many European regions, particularly for cities of Central Europe as they decrease the attractiveness and competitiveness of these regions. Revitalization of degraded areas may significantly contribute to the economic development of the regions as well as to solve many social and environmental problems. More and more examples show that the problematic areas gradually become areas for potential development.
Another equally important issue is the urban context of revitalization. It is connected with the strong emphasis on the role of towns in creating sustainable development both in national and EU dimension. The capability of using the industrial potential, in that the ability to transform post-industrial areas and facilities to perform new functions is one of the determinants of modern approach to regional development.
This year the Conference will focus on the techniques of soil-water environment monitoring and survey, spatial planning strategies, management and implementation of revitalization process, remediation technologies for degraded areas, and natural landscape, social and economical aspects of revitalization.

During the Conference laureates of the National Competition for Research Studies on Revitalization of Degraded Areas – REVITARE will be presented.
